Josh Hutcherson Confirms He's Up For Spider-Man Role

In February, Logan Lerman announced that "conversations" had begun between himself and Sony for the part of Peter Parker in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot. The studio quickly reacted by stating a "wide net" had been cast for the role and "no offers have been made." Since then, plenty of names have been mentioned for the Spider-Man role, Aaron Johnson, Jamie Bell, and Josh Hutcherson. Hutcherson confirmed to Movieline that he is still in contention for the titular role.
I think they went through a couple different breakdowns. They're trying to figure out who exactly it is and what they want it to be and lock that down. I mean, it'd be an amazing role, I think. I grew up loving the movies, so we'll see. It'd be an amazing movie to be a part of.
Hutcherson admits that he's not a comic book fan, but is a fan of the character.
I'm really excited for the restarting either way. People are like, "Did you read the comics growing up?" No, not really, but the first movie came out when I was nine years old! I grew up watching those movies.
Regardless of whether Hutcherson lands the role, the Journey to the Center of the Earth actor is thrilled to be in the running for the part.
I'm so fortunate to be here and I hope to continue working with this pedigree of people and be on the same list as these other actors. I'm like, "Oh my God, they’re up for this role, too? That's crazy! I'm never gonna get it." It's pretty exciting.
Hutcherson can be seen next in The Kids Are All Right, opening July 9, and may be seen eventually in the upcoming Red Dawn remake, which may or may not open November 24.
