Director Ruben Fleischer scored a home-run with his directorial debut Zombieland. And, he is already set to direct another comedy called 30 Minutes or Less in July, while screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick write Zombieland 2.Fleischer expects to start shooting "sometime towards the end of the year or early next year." Not content with such a robust workload, Fleischer has also added another comedy project to his list.
Deadline reports that Fleischer will direct Babe in the Woods, a comedy about a "female freshman who arrives at Yale and is targeted by the New Jersey mob." The movie was written by Fleischer's friend, School of Rock screenwriter Mike White, whom Fleischer admitted to Entertainment Weekly was a big part of why he agreed to direct the movie.
Mike White gave me my start in the entertainment industry [with] a job as a PA on Dawson’s Creek, which he was a producer on. It was from working on [his] Chuck & Buck and The Good Girl that I got inspired to try and be a director, so it is incredibly gratifying to now actually be directing a movie Mike wrote.
Columbia is equally pleased with the pairing, according to Columbia Pictures president Matt Tolmach's statement in their press release.
Our experience working with Ruben on Zombieland was nothing short of amazing. We love what Mike did with this script and could not be more thrilled to develop Babe in the Woods with these two guys. They bring the perfect blend of comedy and attitude to their projects.
30 Minutes or Less opens August 12, 2011, and stars Danny McBride and Jesse Eisenberg. Zombieland 2 has no release date or start date, and might not start until after Fleischer finishes Babe in the Woods. Lined up after those projects, Fleischer has also sold an untitled pitch to Dreamworks that he will direct and produce with Get Him to the Greek director Nicholas Stoller and Zombieland producer Gavin Polone.
