Sony Execs View Screen Tests of Spider-Man Reboot Contenders

The rumors that have surrounded the casting of the new Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, in director Marc Webb's Spider-Man franchise reboot may soon be coming to an end. According to Deadline, the decision-makers at Sony viewed the screen tests of most of the top contenders for the role on Friday, including Jamie Bell, Anthon Yelchin, Aaron Johnson, Logan Lerman, Andrew Garfield, and Alden Ehrenreich.
Deadline also listed Michael Angarano and Frank Dillane as still being in contention for the role, though it was unclear whether Angarano screen-tested and apparently Dillane chose not to as he has plans to attend drama school at London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Surprisingly, no mention was made of Josh Hutcherson, who recently said that he was still up for the role.
While Deadline admitted that more actors could still be added to the list of possible candidates, it's likely that the future Spider-Man is one of the actors mentioned above, considering the movie is expected to begin filming by year's end and casting of the supporting characters is awaiting the casting of the lead. The only other actor who has been mentioned in connection with Spider-Man 4 (working title) is Michael Fassbender, who was rumored to have been offered the role of the villain, which may or may not turn out to be The Lizard. However, Showbiz411, the site that originally linked Fassbender to the role, recently reported that the actor has opted for the role of Magneto in X-Men: First Class instead.
