Angelina Jolie Explains Why She Pulled Out of Wanted 2, Updates Cleopatra and Sleeping Beauty

In comic books, it's become fairly common for characters who are killed off to return to life. When Superman died back in 1993, it made the front pages of major newspapers across the country, but when Batman bit the dust last year it barely rated an eyebrow raise. So, among fans, there's no reason why Angelina Jolie's Wanted character, Fox, who died at the end of the movie, couldn't return in Wanted 2—Wanted is, after all, based on the comic book series by Mark Millar. Apparently, Jolie doesn't share the comic book community's ambivalence toward death as evidenced by the recent explanation she gave for pulling out of Wanted 2 while doing press for her new movie, Salt.
Being dead makes it difficult. They were [trying to bring me back] but I kind of feel like if I die in a movie, I should die actually. I'm that way, and that character is not as complex as Salt. It would just be doing the exact same thing in another movie, so it's not that interesting to me.
Jolie's next acting role has not been announced, but she has been linked to the lead role in Cleopatra, a musical about the Egyptian queen to be directed by director Steven Soderbergh, and to the role of Malificent in a live-action adaptation of Disney's classic Sleeping Beauty from director Tim Burton. However, Jolie said that both of those projects are still in the very early stages of development.
It got out that we may be doing them, but we're so in the early stages. Neither one has a script, but I've loved Malificent since I was a little girl, so when I heard somebody may be doing it, I was the first one to try to [get it]. I would love to work with [Tim Burton], it would be a dream to work with him. I think he's just extraordinary.
