Joaquin Phoenix to Replace Edward Norton as the Hulk in The Avengers?

Only days ago, Marvel President of Production Kevin Feige confirmed that Edward Norton would not be reprising the role of Bruce Banner, aka the Hulk, in Marvels' upcoming super-team movie, The Avengers, and already another actor is rumored to be up for the role. According to CHUD, "reliable sources" have revealed that Marvel has made an offer to Joaquin Phoenix to step into the role of the gamma-irradiated goliath in The Avengers and in a possible sequel to The Incredible Hulk.
A turn in a high-profile superhero movie like The Avengers might be a great way for Phoenix to get back into the spotlight after a year spent filming the (presumably staged) documentary movie I'm Still Here: The Lost Year of Joaquin Phoenix with director Casey Affleck. While CHUD claims that the actor who plays the Hulk will be "the lowest man on The Avengers pay totem pole," the role could mean a bigger eventual payday if Marvel decides to make The Incredible Hulk 2. The CHUD article went on to say that Marvel is looking for a response from Phoenix soon. They hope to unveil the entire cast of The Avengers at the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con.
