Rumor Alert: Anton Yelchin to Play Harry Osborn in Spider-Man Reboot?

This summer has been filled with casting rumors regarding Sony's upcoming Spider-Man reboot, but this is perhaps the thinnest rumor we've found. Still, it's not a terrible possibility, so we thought we'd share it. According to IMDb (via SlashFilm), Anton Yelchin, former candidate for the role of Peter Parker before Andrew Garfield ultimately landed it, is up for the part of Harry Osborn, the role originally played by James Franco in the original trilogy.
Whether the role of Osborn is even in the script is another dubious element to the rumor. Actress Elena Satine, who, according to AceShowbiz, has auditioned for the part of Mary Jane Watson, used her Twitter account to propose another Peter Parker finalist for the Osborn role.
Garfield is Spidey!!!! Now Alden Ehrenreich should get a nice consolation prize (cough HARRY cough) and we're rolling,"
If Satine has been able to read the script, she may know whether Osborn is included in the reboot. Considering the part is one of Parker's best friends, chance's seem good.
Yelchin's been on a hot streak lately, after playing Chekov in 2009's Star Trek and the young Kyle Reese in Terminator Salvation. Yelchin can be seen next (or heard, anyway) in The Smurfs, and has also been cast as the lead in the remake of the 1985 horror movie, Fright Night. While the Osborn role is very much a rumor, we wouldn't put it past Sony to hire Yelchin, or one of the other Spider-Man candidates, to play the part, but considering the deluge of names mentioned in the recent past, we'll wait before we get too excited about this.
The Spider-Man reboot opens July 3, 2012, with Marc Webb directing.
