Principal photography on Fox's Planet of the Apes prequel, newly retitled Caesar: Rise of the Apes, is already in progress, yet a second late addition to the cast has just been announced. It was recently revealed that Brian Cox had joined the production as a less-than-scrupulous owner of a primate sancturary, and now ComingSoon has reported that Tom Felton—most popularly known as the dastardly tow-headed Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter series—has also been added to the cast as the son of Cox's character.
Set in the present day, Caesar: Rise of the Apes is described in the official synopsis released by Fox as a "reality-based cautionary tale" about the dangers of genetic engineering. The movie will explain the origin of ape intelligence that sparks a war between humans and apes and eventually leads to the dire future depicted in most of the Planet of the Apes movies in which apes are the masters and humans are ignorant savages.
The script was written by co-producers Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa and Rupert Wyatt is directing. James Franco leads the cast, which also includes John Lithgow, Andy Serkis and Freida Pinto.
