After the May announcement that Reliance BIG Pictures would be financing Danny Boyle's planned DNA Films reboot of the Judge Dredd movie property, it appeared as if the project was finally getting on track after initially being announced way back in December 2008. With a $45 million injection of funds, a completed script by Boyle's 28 Days Later and Sunshine screenwriter (Alex Garland), and Pete Travis lined up to direct, all that was missing was the title hero himself.
Now, it appears that the new Judge Dredd has been found. During an interview with MTV in support of his new movie, RED, Karl Urban said that it's "lookin' good" for him to step into the role originally played on screen by Sylvester Stallone in the much-maligned 1995 Judge Dredd.
[Judge Dredd is a] phenomenal, iconic comic book character, so it's a world I know and it would be a privilege and a pleasure to be able to bring that to life.
