Nathan Fillion Doesn't Have Time to Play Ant-Man in The Avengers

When first announced that Joss Whedon was in negotiations to direct The Avengers, many fans of Whedon's short-lived TV series Firefly and the subsequent theatrical sequel to the series, Serenity, began speculating that Nathan Fillion, who played Malcolm "Mal" Reynolds, captain of the Serenity, might earn a spot on the roster of the superhero movie. Since most of the original members of The Avengers were already spoken for, the character that many thought Fillion could play was Dr. Henry "Hank" Pym, aka Ant-Man.
The rumor flared up again yesterday when Fillion took the stage during Whedon's panel at the San Diego Comic-Con. However, Fillion dispelled the rumor that he might be playing Ant-Man in The Avengers once and for all at Disney's "Comic-Tron" party, held last night in San Diego.
You know what, the internet is a vast wealth of information, 90% of it false. I'm working ten months out of the year doing a television program [Castle] where I don't get a lot of opportunities to sneak out after work and do other projects, so I'm kind of locked in. If you just look at the logistics of it, I'm really busy. Even if all of the stars were to align, I wouldn't have time to do it.
Not only is Fillion not playing Ant-Man, but he said that even if he could find the time to appear in The Avengers, Ant-Man would not be on the list of superheroes that he would want to play.
Yeah, if I had my choice, I would probably not pick Ant-Man. Nothing against Mr. Pym. But, no, I would not pick Ant-Man. He would not be my choice.
Fillion went on to say that he is still very interested in starring in a remake of The Greatest American Hero, which he said is "ripe" and "ready" to return.
