Lost Writer to Rewrite Alien Prequel?

Even the most cynical Alien fan has to be intrigued with Ridley Scott returning to direct a prequel to his 1979 sci-fi classic, Alien. So far, Scott has revealed that the movie will possibly be in 3-D and will take place a while before the original, focusing on the giant space jockey creature depicted in the original. While Scott has said that screenwriter Jon Spaihts has already turned in four drafts of the script, the Alien Prequel may be getting a rewrite.
Deadline reports that Lost's Damon Lindelof has been hired to rewrite the prequel script, but Lindelof may be in line to work on more Alien movies as well. The report says a lunch meeting between Lindelof and Scott went so well that "the exchange of ideas between them sparked a take that could well turn out to be a free-standing science fiction film."
That Lindelof would be hired to rewrite the Alien Prequel is curious, since Scott revealed in June that another draft of the screenplay wasn't necessary and that he was already "prepping" the movie. Scott also mentioned that he wanted to "squeeze in two prequels," which may be what Lindelof was brought in to do.
The situation is a dream gig for Lindelof, who apparently is a huge fan of Scott's original. Lindelof co-wrote the upcoming Cowboys and Aliens and is currently co-writing Star Trek 2 with Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.
