Chris Evans on His Captain America Physique
Posted 08.07.10 by BrentJS
Actor Chris Evans debuted his new "superhero body" during Marvel Studios' Captain America: The First Avenger panel held during the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC). Always fit, but typically leaner, Evans' shoulders, chest, and arms were virtually bursting out of his button-down shirt, which seemed to satisfy many fans who had previously felt that he was too skinny to play "The Star-Spangled Avenger," a character who is supposed to be the peak in human fitness and strength. During an interview with MTV, Evans said that he "absolutely" bulked up for the role, but also said that the Captain America costume, itself, will help to fill out his physique on screen.
I'd been in the gym for a bit. It was tricky, I was working on another project prior to this. So there was a limit to how big I could get, because obviously I can't morph—
They have these really great body suits that make everything fill out in all the right places. I've got skinny legs.
The First Avenger: Captain America was written by Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus and is currently filming in London under the direction of Joe Johnston. Joining Evans as Captain America are Sebastian Stan as Cap's sidekick, James "Bucky" Barnes, and Hugo Weaving as Cap's nemesis, the Red Skull.
