Vampire Academy Guest Blog: Must-Have Scenes from the Book

Vampire Academy fandom has been collectively gushing over the thought of the series being made into movies. Casting dreams abound about which actor series devotees want to play the tall, dark and handsome Dimitri Belikov (did we mention he has a Russian accent?). Not a lot has been heard about which scenes fans would really love to have brought to the big screen. We asked Katie from ShadowKissed.net to share her five must-have scenes with us.
Spoiler Alert: Katie's blog contains SPOILERS. Read at your own peril.
Sitting down to think about it I wondered… which scenes would work? Which scenes would have to work to make the movie faithful to the books? Which scenes would the fans of the series want to see most on screen? Here are a few scenes which I feel are either pivotal to telling the story through events and character development, or I just plain want to see (ahem, Lust Charm scene, anyone?).
The first important scene is where Rose and Lissa are caught and taken back to the Academy. They get the lecture of a lifetime from Headmistress Kirova, who threatens to expel Rose for kidnapping Lissa. Rose has some excellent one liners in this scene: “You got cheap foreign labour to protect Lissa?” (In response to being told Dimitri is now Lissa’s guardian). Not only this, but it is revealed that Lissa and rose have a special psychic bond, which Dimitri picks up on. It is this alone that allows Rose to stay in the Academy to continue her Dhampir training.
Another scene is where Lissa stumbles upon Christian Ozera in the attic of the Academy’s church. Christian, who is an outcast in not only in the Academy, but also in the Moroi and Dhampir world as a result of his parents turning Strigoi when he was an infant, forms a strange truce with the Dragomir princess, which develops into friendship (and possibly more) as the story progresses.
As this is a story set in the equivalent of a high school setting, there is bound to be some catty drama. Rose, with her fierce, quick rising temper is easily provoked, especially when anyone picks on Lissa. This brings us to another important scene. The scene where Rose punches Mia Rinaldi in the nose after Mia had been taunting Lissa about her stint in the Psych ward at the schools infirmary.
The next big important scene will appeal to any of the fans who migrated from the Twilight fandom in search of something a little steamier than Edward and Bella’s chaste kisses. The bad guy in the story plants a “lust charm” on Rose, which starts affecting her just as Lissa gets into trouble. She goes to find help, but is stopped short as soon as she bumps into her love interest. Just by touching him inadvertently they are both overcome by uncontrollable lust for each other and both get very distracted, very quickly.
The final scene of the book, the show down with the bad guy, is a nail biter. I can’t wait to see how they put this one on the big screen. Lissa is sadistically tortured by a Moroi using his air element to suffocate her repeatedly because she has something they want. Christian, Rose and Dimitri all race against time to try and save Lissa and a dramatic show down ensues. It will be scenes like this that will appeal to both guys and girls, with a mix of combat action, and (hopefully) awesome special effects of the Moroi magic in action.
