Guillermo del Toro "Would Love" to Direct Hellboy 3 but Faces Obstacles

Now that Guillermo del Toro is no longer contracted to spend the next several years in New Zealand directing the two-part prequel to The Lord of the Rings franchise, The Hobbit, many fans have been clamoring for him to return to the long-talked-about sequel to Hellboy II: The Golden Army. In a recent interview with MTV, Guillermo said that he "would love to do it," but there are a couple obstacles to that happening, including the fact that title star Ron Perlman is not crazy about the idea of getting back into the makeup chair to transform into Hellboy.
You know, I think that everyone should ask Ron. I had dinner last week with him and he said, 'Six hours [in makeup], what do you want?' And he's doing Sons of Anarchy without makeup. He's spoiled! He likes to be the big cheese without the makeup session.
Another obstacle for del Toro is a self-imposed one — he doesn't want to have to kill off Hellboy, which he has said in the past is the necessary third chapter in the Hellboy trilogy.
...the heartbreak for me is that I know how it ends and I don't know if I want to see that ending. But I would love to do it.
While the creator of the Hellboy comic book on which the movies are based, Mike Mignola, doesn't have any say in whether or not a third movie is made, he told MTV in a past interview that he wants to tell Hellboy's ending before del Toro does.
The problem is, what del Toro’s talked about to me is that Hellboy III would be the end of Hellboy ... but I want to be the one who does that. And if del Toro does my ending, there won't be a lot of surprise when I get to the end of the comic.
