Piranha 3D Gets a Sequel
08.24.10 by Ryan
After raking in only $10.1 million at the box office over the weekend, Dimension is making a sequel to Piranha 3D, THR reports.
While it is unknown whether screenwriters Peter Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg or producer/director
Alexandre Aja will return for the sequel, producer Mark Canton will be back, and he spoke excitedly about the sequel.
We are thrilled that audiences are not just loving Piranha 3D, but cheering for it. And it's fantastic that so many critics are really getting the movie and recommending it. We can't wait to get to work on the sequel.
Piranha 3D did receive good reviews, particularly for a genre movie, and currently holds an 81% approval rating on consumer review site, Rotten Tomatoes. Made for only $24 million dollars, a meager budget by Hollywood standards (weekend box office competitor Nanny McPhee Returns was made for $35 million), perhaps a Piranha sequel isn't so shocking.
Piranha 3D is currently in theaters and stars Elisabeth Shue, Ving Rhames, Christopher Lloyd, and Richard Dreyfuss. Whomever makes it out alive could return for Piranha 2 3D
