Little Fockers Now with a Little Dustin Hoffman

Earlier this month, reports arrived online that Dustin Hoffman was being courted to shoot new scenes for the upcoming sequel Little Fockers that would include his Meet the Fockers character. The courting was a success.
Deadline reports that Hoffman, the only actor from Universal's successful Meet the Parents franchise to not appear in the upcoming sequel, shot four new scenes for the movie, mostly with his on-screen bride (Barbra Streisand) and a "big scene" with the major cast.
Little Fockers finds Ben Stiller still searching for acceptance from his father-in-law (Robert De Niro), only this time with the addition of little children. Director Paul Weitz stepped in for the departing Jay Roach (Dinner For Schmucks), who stayed on as producer and helped convince Hoffman to return. The recent pick-ups, which also included scenes with Stiller and the kids, were reportedly not an attempt to "save" the movie, but rather "an investment in the future of the franchise."
And what an investment it was. According to the report, Hoffman didn't take a pay cut despite only shooting four scenes. But, with a December 22 release date, Universal clearly wants to make sure that the third outing is worth it for audiences. That way, the studio can eventually announce the inevitable sequel (More Fockers? Fockers in Space? Fockers Episode IV: A New Focker?)
