Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson Goes on a Journey

2008's Journey to the Center of the Earth scored up a hefty $241 million in worldwide box office, so it's no surprise that another Journey is on the way. What is a surprise is that while Josh Hutcherson is returning, Brendan Fraser is not. THR reports that Fraser had some scheduling conflicts that forced him to drop out of the sequel, but that New Line has found a replacement in Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
Johnson will play the boyfriend of Hutcherson's mother in the sequel, titled Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. In an attempt to find his missing grandfather, Hutcherson is forced to bring Johnson along for the ride. The movie is loosely base on the Jules Verne 1874 novel Mysterious Island. Fraser played Hutcherson's uncle in the original.
Replacing director Eric Brevig is Brad Peyton (Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore), whose familiarity with 3-D technology will be required for The Mysterious Island since the sequel will be shot and released in the format.
Production on the sequel will begin in late October, after Johnson finishes work on Fast and the Furious 5.
