Natalie Portman to Enter Alfonso Cuaron's Gravity?

Director Alfonso Cuarón may be getting close to filling the lead role in his
upcoming 3-D space thriller, Gravity. Just last week, Angelina Jolie was offered the lead role again, but turned it down (again), leaving Cuarón to fill the role before production begins at the end of January of next year. Both Scarlett Johansson and Blake Lively reportedly tested for the role earlier this month, along with a long list of other contenders, but Natalie Portman may end up with the movie lead should she choose to accept it.
THR reports that after Portman's performance in the upcoming thriller Black Swan, which just screened at the Venice and Telluride film festivals, Cuarón was given permission by the studio to pursue her for the role. The part would follow Portman as an astronaut who is left stranded after her space station is destroyed. The actress is expected to make her decision after reading the latest draft of the screenplay written by Cuarón and his son Jonas.
Should Portman ultimately accept the part, she will join Robert Downey Jr. in the project, which takes place almost entirely in space. Portman does have a busy schedule lined up for next year, and the Oscar buzz surrounding her Black Swan performance could make her even busier.
