Gary Ross, the man behind 2003's Seabiscuit, is reportedly in talks to direct Lionsgate's upcoming book-to-movie adaptation of The Hunger Games. Filming is due to start next year, with the movie set for a theater release in 2012.
Suzanne Collins' hugely popular Hunger Games trilogy is one of the most talked about in young adult literature, with all 3 books in the series spending large amounts of time on the New York Times Best Seller list. It sees teenagers fighting to the death in a reality TV-style arena, and has been recommended by many celebrity authors including Stephenie Meyer and Stephen King. Collins has already written a screenplay for the movie, which is being worked on by scriptwriter Billy Ray.
Other directors rumored to be in line for the job included Kate Winslet's ex Sam Mendes (American Beauty), vampire expert David Slade (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) and New Zealand native Andrew Adamson (The Chronicles of Narnia). With Mendes seemingly back on track to helm James Bond 23 and Slade headed for a job on Wolverine 2, it seems only logical that Ross would be next in line to direct. What do you think, Hunger Games fans? Can he pull it off? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
