Ghost Rider 2 Gets a Release Date

The sequel to 2007's Ghost Rider, titled Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, is currently shooting in Romania and has been given a release date. ComingSoon reports that Sony's Columbia Pictures have scheduled a February 17, 2012, release date, putting the sequel 5 years and a day from the original's release.
Nicolas Cage is returning to the role, with directors Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor (Crank) sharing directing duties. David Goyer supplied the script, which he initially wrote a decade ago as a "hard R" movie that was rewritten to be the sequel.
As for what Goyer's script entails, Italian site Comicus reportedly has seen a copy, which they say finds Johnny Blaze (Cage) withdrawn from the world to hide his alter ego until he is approached by a monk to locate a woman named Nadya and protect her son Danny. The movie's villain is named Roarke, and the son Blaze is tasked to protect could be Danny Ketch, who, in the comic books, takes over as Ghost Rider after Blaze. Those that can read Italian may be able to understand more of the script review.
Whether or not that becomes the story of Ghost Rider: The Spirit of Vengeance is unknown, though producer Michael De Luca has described the script as a "redemption story" that allows "some character development" in a "very intimate storyline." While none of that refutes the description supplied by Comicus, it doesn't exactly confirm it either. We'll await an official synopsis to be sure.
