After six seasons on the TV show Lost, Josh Holloway will continue to work with J.J. Abrams. THR reports that the actor has joined the upcoming Mission: Impossible 4 sequel, which Abrams is producing. Holloway will play a member of the Impossible Mission Force, alongside Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton, Ving Rhames, and Simon Pegg, who also worked with Abrams on Mission: Impossible III and Star Trek. Holloway isn't the only actor to join the sequel, however.
The Wrap reports that Russian actor Vladimir Mashkov (Behind Enemy Lines) has been cast as a Russian agent in the upcoming sequel. Another European actor, Michael Nyqvist, will play one of the movie's lead villains, THR reports. Nyqvist appeared in the Swedish adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and their sequels.
Director Brad Bird (Incredibles) will make his live-action directing debut with Mission: Impossible 4, which is scouting locations in Vancouver, Prague and Dubai for a shoot that reportedly begins this fall. Abrams worked on the story for the sequel, while Alias writers Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec wrote the screenplay. The sequel opens December 16, 2011.
