After facing a team of minor demons in the original Ghost Rider movie, it appears that Johnny Blaze (played by Academy Award-winning actor Nicolas Cage) will be contending with the king of all demons in the sequel. According to THR, Irish actor Ciarán Hinds is currently in negotiations to play Blaze's antagonist, the devil himself, in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.
Prior to the THR announcement, little was known about the plot to Spirit of Vengeance except that Cage described it as "darker, harder" and "more international" than the original. The THR article revealed that Blaze finds himself in Eastern Europe in the sequel, where he seeks to repress the curse that transforms him into the anti-hero with the flaming skull visage and a penchant for chains and motorcycles. There, he is recruited by a sect which aims to combat the devil, whose goal is to possess the body of Blaze's son on his next birthday. The actor who will play Blaze's son has not been revealed, but Italian singer and actress Violante Placido (The American) will portray the boy's mother.
Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance is scheduled to go into production in November and shoot in Romania and Turkey. The script was written by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor and is based on an R-rated Ghost Rider script by David Goyer that predates the original movie. The duo will also direct.
