Unfortunately for fans of the Hellboy
Movie franchise, director Guillermo del Toro has all but admitted that the much-talked-about sequel to Hellboy II: The Golden Army will never happen. Even though del Toro has said on many occasions that he "would love to do" another movie, he has also spoken at length about the many obstacles to Hellboy 3, including resistance from creator Mike Mignola, the fact that title star Ron Perlman is not crazy about once again undergoing the prosthetics process to turn him into Hellboy, and his own reluctance to tell his version of the end of the character. In a recent interview with MTV, del Toro shot down the idea of Hellboy 3 being presented in a comic book format, and basically said that the only way that fans are going to get the story is to find him at a book signing and ask him about it.
Mike [Mignola] had a very wise position. He said, "Look, we have the animated universe, we have the comic book universe, and the movie universe, and we have managed to keep them all separate. The rules that we have created…don't mix. To bring the movie Hellboy into comics is, for me, to confuse the mythology, so I would like that to stay in the movies." I can't agree or disagree with the creator. He's the creator. I don't see Hellboy 3—What I promise is, if you corral me at any signing and you say, 'Tell me the story of Hellboy 3!" I'll tell it to you in two minutes. [But] I think I can look forward to being 85 and being a campfire storyteller and saying, "And then Hellboy..."
