Pineapple Express Sequel in the Works?
10.11.10 by Ryan
2008 stoner comedy Pineapple Express scored a modest hit ($101 million worldwide) for director David Gordon Green, who usually works in indie fare like All the Real Girls. MTV caught up with the direactor at the New York Comic-Con, where he revealed that a Pineapple Express sequel is a real possibility.
We keep talking to the studio about it and they're going to organize a dinner some day and this dinner has been talked about for about two years now. We're going to get together and throw all the millions of ideas that we have into a pot and see if there's any reason to make that movie.
Green says the sequel could go in several different artistic directions.
The most interesting spin is to go in a Scarface direction, which I think you could get me back in the ring with [Seth Rogen and James Franco] any day of the week. I want to see them in the Miami coke scene, I think... or maybe take it in the Clear and Present Danger direction and go to South America. You know, there's a few avenues that are maybe a little bit worthy of more than a barroom napkin scribble of an idea.
Green's next comedy, Your Highness, stars Pineapple Express' Franco and Danny McBride and opens April 11, 2011.
