Deadpool Script Leaked Online; Rodriguez to Direct Sin City 2 Instead?

The movie adaptation of Deadpool can't catch a break. The project received a promising start, which saw Ryan Reynolds play the wise-cracking assassin in X-Men Origins: Wolverine with such success that a Deadpool spin-off was announced, and Zombieland screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were soon hired to write the script. With the writers admitting earlier this year that they were talking with Reynolds "every day" about the screenplay, and Robert Rodriguez being rumored for the Deadpool director's chair, progress on the project seemed to be going in the right direction. Then, everything began to fall apart.
Rodriguez admitted in August that he wasn't "able to commit" because of his commitment to Spy Kids: All the Time in the World, and then, Reynolds' schedule suddenly became so full that the actor revealed last month that he couldn't appear in both Deadpool and another comic book adaptation, R.I.P.D., both of which he is attached to. With Deadpool still struggling to find a director, screenwriter Reese admitted on his Twitter account that the script he and Wernick have written was leaked online.
From what I can tell, yes, the Deadpool script leaked. No idea how. If you don't want things spoiled, be aware!
Reese's announcement comes after Bleeding Cool admitted that they had found a copy of the script, revealing the characters included [WARNING: POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD].
There’s Blind Al, Deadpool’s sort-of-roommate, and Patch, the barman-come-mercenary dispatcher who gives Deadpool his jobs. I’m sure you were already expecting those. Then there’s several Weapon-X characters, including (but not limited to) Wyre, Ajax, Sluggo and Garrison Kane. Wade Wilson’s love affair with Vanessa Carlysle is apparently a key part of the story, though I’ve been promised that she’s never seen in her Copycat guise and there’s no indication she’s a mutant at all.
The report also claims that the X-Man Colossus appears in "more than one scene and has got some stuff to do" in the movie. Daniel Cudmore played the character in X2: X-Men United and X-Men: The Last Stand.
As for Rodriguez, The Playlist reports that the director dealt another possible blow to Deadpool by admitting during a Facebook live chat earlier this week that he will start Sin City 2 after finishing Spy Kids.
Frank Miller and I are working on it. It's slated to be the next one, but if the script is not ready, then we'll have to move to the next one.
Whether that "next one" will be Deadpool is unknown, but fans should keep their fingers crossed. Deadpool could use some luck.
