Natalie Portman for the Alien Prequel?

Lately, it seems all Natalie Portman does is turn down movie roles, dropping out of an adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies that she was also producing, and turning down the lead role in Alfonso Cuarón' 3-D space thriller, Gravity. However, Twentieth Century Fox is reportedly looking to cast her as the lead role of director Ridley Scott's prequel to his 1979 sci-fi classic, Alien.
According to Vulture, Fox was "very pleased" with the rewrite turned in by Lost writer Damon Lindelof from Jon Spaihts' original draft. While several actresses have met with Scott about the lead role (including Carey Mulligan (Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps), Abbie Cornish (Scott's A Good Year), and Noomi Rapace (Swedish adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and its subsequent sequels), Fox is said to be pushing for Portman, who is gaining Oscar buzz for her performance in Fox's upcoming thriller, Black Swan. The report claims that Portman is "at the top of [Fox's] list," with Rapace "right behind." The role apparently will be a "female Colonial Marine general."
The script for the yet-untitled Alien Prequel is said to be returning to its horror-suspense roots, along with a PG-13 rating, and once Fox and Scott finish arguing over the movie's budget, it could see theaters by the summer of 2012.
