Photos from the upcoming Scream 4, including a pic of the entire cast, turned up in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly. Besides returning franchise stars Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, and David Arquette, director Wes Craven also returned to helm the horror franchise, and told ShockTillYouDrop that, like the previous Scream movies, Scream 4 will continue to comment on horror movie rules.
I think it has echoes to the first [film]. There’s been a whole decade of horror films that in one way or another followed a certain pattern. Like you had torture porn, [and] a ton of remakes. The first [Scream] was very much observing where horror had been for the last 10 to 20 years. And this is very much looking at where horror has been for the last 10 years. There’s always somebody trying to figure out what the rules are to keep from getting killed.
Scream 4 will take place 10 years after the events of Scream 3, with Campbell's character of Sydney Prescott returning to the town of Woodsboro after completing a tour for her new self-help book. "She ends the book tour with going to Woodsboro and there she finds her cousin (Emma Roberts) and her aunt (Mary McDonnell) and some friends and trouble ensues," Campbell told EW. Campbell's Sydney will also encounter the now-Sheriff Dewey (Arquette) and a restless Gale (Cox).
"I kinda gave up my job as the entertainment journalist," said Cox of her character. "I’ve written six books, but now I have major writer’s block. I’m bored with my life and bored with my marriage and bored with the silly small town of Woodsboro. It’s actually the anniversary of the first killing in Woodsboro. When she arrives to promote her book, things start happening, and I couldn’t be more thrilled."
Thrilled, that is, until the killing begins. Scream 4 opens in 3-D on April 15, 2011, and also stars Hayden Panettiere, Rory Culkin, Adam Brody, Marley Shelton, Erik Knudsen, Alison Brie, and Anthony Anderson.
