Director Brad Anderson is no stranger to genre movies, after directing the creepy, 2001 horror movie Session 9 and thrillers like 2004's The Machinist and 2008's Transsiberian. Anderson's latest, the post-apocalyptic thriller Vanishing on 7th Street, has been touring the festival circuit, awaiting a studio to pick up the distribution rights. Now ComingSoon reports, Magnet Releasing has picked up the movie, much to Anderson's excitement.
Vanishing on 7th Street is an apocalyptic thriller about the end of the world and it could not be placed in better hands than with Magnet Releasing, whose expertise in distributing genre films is par none. I am excited to be working with them to bring the film to audiences across the country.
The thriller finds John Leguizamo, Thandie Newton, and Hayden Christensen as a group of survivors in Detroit after a blackout seems to rob the city of most of its inhabitants. They soon realize that the darkness is out to get them and that the remaining light sources they have left are their only sanctuary.
"Vanishing on 7th Street is scary as hell, but it's the richness of its characters and the stellar performances that really make it stand out," said Magnet Senior VP Tom Quinn in the official statement. "Brad Anderson has made an excellent, wholly original ghost film that is a perfect fit for the Magnet slate."
Vanishing on 7th Street will open in February 2011. Watch the trailer here.
