Mark Wahlberg to Play the Crow?

Could The Other Guys and The Fighter star soon be donning goth makeup for writer-director Stephen Norrington's version of The Crow? Producer Edward Pressman announced in June that an offer had been sent to "a major actor" for the movie. Today, Bloody-Disgusting is reporting that Mark Wahlberg has been offered the part, which he has yet to accept or decline.
Neither a sequel nor a reboot, Norrington has described his Crow movie as a new story with new characters based on the mythology of the James O'Barr comic book. That could mean that Wahlberg might play another murdered man who is brought back to life to seek revenge, but whether Wahlberg will play "Eric Draven" (as Brandon Lee did in the 1994 original) is unknown. Pressman has said that the movie will take place in "the southwest and an urban environment like "Detroit or Pittsburgh," and that "The Crow itself is a creature" in the movie with a "more active role in the story."
Musician and screenwriter Nick Cave is rewriting Norrington's script. Once that is complete, it ought to bring more details on the project. Norrington is still attached to direct Wahlberg, should he agree to appear in the movie.
