Noomi Rapace has already become something of a sensation in Europe thanks to her portrayal of Lisbeth Salander in the Millenium Trilogy of movies—The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest—based on the novels of the late Stieg Larsson, and now the Award-winning Swedish actress is poised to become a household name in America, as well. Rapace landed a top-secret role in director Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes 2 alongside Robert Downey Jr. and is rumored to be in talks for the lead in Ridley Scott's Alien Prequel. While in LA on Monday to promote the U.S. release of Hornet's Nest on October 29th, Rapace addressed the Alien Prequel rumors and said that she would love to work with Scott.
Rapace admitted that she has met with Scott and that they share a mutual admiration, but said that any talk of her being cast in the Alien Prequel is just talk for the time being.
I would love to work with Ridley, but there's so many rumors. I've read a lot of things about me in the paper and gone, " Oh really? Okay! Yeah — I didn't know that!" But I've met him a couple of times, and it's amazing for me, but he's said he's a big fan of my work, and I'm a really big fan of his work so I would love to work with him. But we'll see.
Rapace went on to say that if she does accept a role in a movie like the Alien Prequel it won't be because she's trying to strategize her career or simply for blockbuster-level money, but because she has a desire to work with the other people attached to the movie (which sounds like she is saying that she will accept the Alien Prequel gig if it offered to her considering her admiration of Scott's work).
That's not the way I think. It's more like it's all about the persons — the script and the director and the other actors, that's everything that matters.... I think that the only thing that I have to know is that I in my heart want to do it. I can't do it because it's a good thing to do, or because it's well-paid; I have to find something that hits me.
Other actresses who have supposedly met with Scott about the lead role in the Alien Prequel include Carey Mulligan (Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps) and Abbie Cornish (A Good Year). Another report has 20th Century Fox placing Natalie Portman at the top of its wish list, though it is unclear if she has even met with Scott about the movie yet. The Alien Prequel script was written by Jon Spaihts, with rewrites by Lost writer Damon Lindelof.
