Spider-Man Reboot Searching for J. Jonah Jameson

Sony's reboot of Spider-Man has cast its Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), villain (Rhys Ifans in an unspecified role, but possibly the Lizard), and love interest Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), but what about J. Jonah Jameson, Parker's boss at the Daily Bugle and avid hater of Parker's web-crawling alter ego? J.K. Simmons capably and hilariously played the role in the previous trilogy, but a recent report claims that Sony and director Marc Webb will be looking elsewhere for the reboot.
Australian site WhatsPlaying reports that Webb is meeting with actors for the role, with a "dozen or so" actors potentially up for the part. While no actor has been confirmed, the report claims that John Slattery, who last worked for Marvel in Iron Man 2, is under consideration. Sam Elliott (Ghost Rider) was also mentioned, but his Southern accent seems more appropriate when talking to The Dude, not Peter Parker.
While both of the aforementioned actors have a good relationship with Marvel, it seems like anyone might have a hard time following Simmons in the role. With an announcement likely in the coming weeks, an unknown could very well be cast as well.
