New Official Photos from Captain America

Outside of set pics of Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell on the Manchester location of Captain America: The First Avenger, Marvel hasn't released official photos until the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly. The photos have plenty to offer fans as they depict Evans (duh) both in costume (cool) and shirtless (oh my), as well as with Atwell's Peggy Carter, Stanley Tucci as Dr. Abraham Erskine, Hugo Weaving as Johann Schmidt, a.k.a. the Red Skull, and photos of soldiers of the criminal organization HYDRA on motorcycles and a HYDRA submarine.
EW's set visit also revealed Evans' initial reticence to accept the role of Captain America, which Evans rejected three times before signing a deal for six Marvel movies.
At the time, I remember telling a buddy of mine, "If the movie bombs, I’m f--ed. If the movie hits, I’m f—-ed!" I was just scared. I realized my whole decision making process was fear based, and you never want to make a decision out of fear. I can’t believe I was almost too chicken to play Captain America.
Unlike the other Marvel movies leading up to The Avengers, Captain America is set in the 1940's during World War II and follows Steve Rogers' origin as he joins Project Rebirth and becomes Captain America so he can fight Nazis during the war. The story is what drew director Joe Johnston to the project.
The interesting thing about this character is that he’s an everyman who in the course of a few minutes becomes a perfect human specimen. That has to create some interesting personal issues. I saw it as an opportunity to make a superhero movie that felt real, that didn’t have to rely on an overabundance of fantasy elements.
Captain America: The First Avenger opens July 22, 2011, and co-stars Sebastian Stan as Captain America's sidekick Bucky, Tommy Lee Jones as Colonel Phillips, and Neal McDonough as Timothy "Dum Dum" Dugan.
