News has been slow on the adaptation of 21 Jump Street, the 1980's TV show about a group of undercover cops that enter high schools to find drug dealers that Jonah Hill is writing, producing, and starring in. In September, it looked like Emma Stone might join her Superbad co-star in the movie's cast, but news of her being cast as Gwen Stacy in Sony's reboot of Spider-Man could make the actress too busy to do both. In a recent interview, Hill revealed that the project is very much in the works.
"That should be shooting early next year," Hill told MTV. "I think we'll have some cool casting announcements to make very, very soon." Hill wouldn't say whether those announcements would include Stone. "I can't say anything to the negative or the positive of that."
Hill went on to say that 21 Jump Street will be "my next movie" and that he "won't do another movie before that movie as of right now." Hill couldn't confirm whether 21 Jump Street star Johnny Depp would cameo in the movie, though he says the offer is out there.
Hopefully, he does it. It would be awesome if he did it. [To "Depp":] Just do it, dude. Don't be an a**hole. Just be in the movie.
Hill also confirmed that he had been approached about appearing in Zoolander 2, a project that was announced earlier this year.
I talked with Ben [Stiller] and [co-writer and director] Justin [Theroux], and they had an idea of who they wanted me to play, and I kind of riffed on that idea and gave them some other ideas. I'd love to be a part of it whenever they get it together.
