Toxic Avenger Remake Moves Forward, Gets a Director

The 1985 cult favorite The Toxic Avenger was a huge hit for B-movie production company Troma Entertainment and spawned several sequels. The movie followed a wimpy janitor who, after accidentally falling into toxic waste, transforms into a superhuman creature. In April came the announcement that a reboot would turn Toxie into a "green superhero for these environmentally conscious times." Producer Akiva Goldsman and his production team have found a writer-director who can handle the challenge of bringing a campy, cult movie into modern times.
Deadline reports that Steve Pink (Hot Tub Time Machine) has been hired to direct the remake, and will co-write the screenplay along with Daniel C. Mitchell.
"The Toxic Avenger is exactly what the country — wait, that's not big enough — what the world needs right now," said Pink, who also wrote the screenplays for High Fidelity and Grosse Pointe Blank.
Lloyd Kaufman and Michael Herz, who directed the original Toxic Avenger, will executive produce the movie, which currently has no set release date.
