The first teaser trailer for Kevin James' long-delayed family comedy, Zookeeper, recently debuted in front of MegaMind, and it can now be viewed online. The script by Jay Scherick and David Ronn (Norbit, Guess Who) sparked a bidding war when it was first shopped around back in 2008, reportedly selling to MGM for upwards of $3 million. The movie, about a zookeeper (James) who discovers that the animals at his zoo can talk, was directed by Frank Coraci (Click) and wrapped on October 30, 2009. It was originally scheduled to be released on October 8th of this year, but Sony—which took over the distribution rights from MGM—pushed the release date back to July 8, 2011, to take advantage of the more lucrative summer movie season. Rosario Dawson, Leslie Bibb and Donnie Wahlberg also star, with Adam Sandler, Judd Apatow, Sylvester Stallone, Jon Favreau and Cher among those supplying the voices of some of the animals.
Here's the official synopsis of the movie:
In Zookeeper, the animals at the Franklin Park Zoo love their kindhearted caretaker, Griffin Keyes (Kevin James). Finding himself more comfortable with a lion than a lady, Griffin decides the only way to get a girl in his life is to leave the zoo and find a more glamorous job. The animals, in a panic, decide to break their time-honored code of silence and reveal their biggest secret: they can talk! To keep Griffin from leaving, they decide to teach him the rules of courtship—animal style.
