Christopher Nolan Compiles a Short List of Actresses for The Dark Knight Rises; Sequel Could Get IMAX'd

More actresses are being rumored for the female roles in Christopher Nolan's highly-anticipated The Dark Knight Rises. Last week,
Charlize Theron, Vera Farmiga, and The Burning Plain actress Kacie Thomas were rumored to be up for the roles of Sarah Essen, a love interest for Commissioner Gordon, and Julie Madison, all of which remains unconfirmed.
The latest list of potential actresses comes from Deadline which states that Nolan is looking for a love interest and a villain. According to the report, the actresses that Nolan is looking to meet with are Rachel Weisz, Naomi Watts, Blake Lively, Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway and Keira Knightley.
Should this list be true, the American actresses could have an advantage. While Nolan generally works with British actors, Katie Holmes and Maggie Gyllenhaal both portrayed the character of Rachel Dawes in the previous movies. However, Portman has a reportedly ridiculously busy schedule that has forced her to drop out of both Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Gravity. Lively, meanwhile, is already cast in Warner Bros. Green Lantern, though appearing in multiple comic book franchises hasn't worked out poorly for her Green Lantern co-star Ryan Reynolds.
Whomever lands the role, they will join newcomer Tom Hardy, who is playing an unspecified villain. As for whether there will be multiple villains, Morgan Freeman hinted at the possibility in October.
The Dark Knight Rises starts production next April in New Orleans. According to Collider, Nolan could shoot the entire movie in IMAX if the company finishes building a camera that won't overpower dialogue scenes. Nolan has revealed that he is not a fan of 3-D, and, after shooting several sequences from The Dark Knight in IMAX, admitted in 2009 that he wished he could have shot "the entire thing" in the format.
