First Look at Karl Urban as Judge Dredd

British comic book artist Jock used his Twitter page to release the first photo from director Pete Travis's Dredd, an adaptation of the John Wagner's Judge Dredd comic book. Jock began his drawing career with Judge Dredd and illustrated the concept art for the latest adaptation which stars Karl Urban in the title role.
Those unfamiliar with the comic book might still be aware of Judge Dredd from the 1995 adaptation that starred Sylvester Stallone and committed a heinous blasphemy for Judge Dredd fans everywhere when Stallone took off his iconic helmet and kept it off for a large amount of the movie. Urban has promised a "very gritty, hardcore, faithful adaptation", which will follow "a day-in-the-life" of Dredd, a hardened lawman in the futuristic city of Mega City One, as he trains rookie Anderson [Olivia Thirlby].
Travis is currently shooting Dredd in South Africa, from a script by Alex Garland (Sunshine). While Dredd has no release date Empire speculates that fans can expect the movie in 2012. No matter when Dredd opens, it will arrive in 3-D. And, don't worry, Urban has stressed that he will "keep the helmet on."
