Rumor Mill: Matthew Goode to Play Superman?
11.24.10 by Ryan
Last week, it was reported that director Zack Snyder, producer Christopher Nolan, and studio Warner Bros. had begun the casting process for the upcoming Superman reboot. Reportedly, the search was for "an actor in the 28-to-32 age range" who perhaps is an actor from a TV show that "isn't well known yet." If the hard-to-trust rumor mill is to be believed, that person could be British actor Matthew Goode.
MovieNewz reports that Snyder is looking to reunite with his Watchmen actor, whose primary responsibility would be to play human alter ego Clark Kent, while the Superman half would "be a CG-enhanced character" similar to what Warners is doing with Ryan Reynolds in Green Lantern. While Goode does have a history with Snyder, and did play a character in Watchmen who displayed a dual personality, the Goode-as-Superman story is ultimately derived from nebulous "sources." Who's next, Watchmen co-star Patrick Wilson?
Actually, it could be. Earlier this month, Wilson expressed his interest in the project to Movieweb.
When I heard [Snyder] signed on [to ] I called one of my agents and said that I hadn't talked to Zack or anything but that I just wanted to read it. I don't even care if I'm right for anything, I just want to know what he's doing.
Wilson called Snyder the "most detailed, focused director that I've worked with," but wasn't sure if he would be the right fit for the Man of Steel.
Oh man, who knows? I love seeing all the Jon Hamm comments and Jon is like, "What? I'm over forty, this is ridiculous". So I don't know? That is such a big thing, who knows? I remember when Watchmen came around I didn't think I was really age appropriate or right for that but then when I jumped into it I was able to make it work. So who, knows? I would be happy to do anything with Zack again.
For now, we're still considering the Superman role "uncast."
