Mark Wahlberg "Interested" in The Crow?

In October, it was rumored that Mark Wahlberg might be up for the lead role in the upcoming version of The Crow. In an interview with MTV, Wahlberg responded to the rumor, with curious results.
[I'm] interested in the director, [but] there's no real script and nothing is set up, so...
Wahlberg's response is curious because reports indicated the opposite. Stephen Norrington was originally set to write and direct the movie, which he claimed was neither a sequel nor a reboot, Norrington's script got a rewrite from musician-screenwriter Nick Cave, but only days after the Wahlberg rumor surfaced, Norrington admitted he was no longer involved with the project, citing that an unnamed star had boarded the movie and had asked for a completely new script from a new writer not named Norrington or Cave. Whether that "star" was Wahlberg, Norrington would not say, but he did reveal that having Wahlberg attached to The Crow "could be cool" and that the actor "could really ground the supernatural stuff."
Whether Wahlberg meant he was "interested" in working with Norrington or another, unannounced director is also unknown. However, should Wahlberg's upcoming The Fighter end up with the Oscar nominations that some believe it deserves, it may be too difficult to wrangle the actor to play a new version of the vengeful goth hero, originally created in James O'Barr's comic book.
