Cate Blanchett Returns for The Hobbit

In an unsurprising move, Cate Blanchett will return as the elven character of Galadriel in at least one of the upcoming Hobbit movies. Blanchett played the character in all three of the previous Lord of the Rings movies.
"Cate is one of my favorite actors to work with and I couldn't be more thrilled to have her reprise the role she so beautifully brought to life in the earlier films," director Peter Jackson said in a press release.
Blanchett is joined by a few more cast additions including Scottish actor Ken Stott (Charlie Wilson's War) as Dwarf Lord Balin, Sylvester McCoy (Doctor Who) as the wizard Radagast the Brown, Swedish actor Mikael Persbrandt as the helpful shape-shifter Beorn, and Ryan Gage as Drogo Baggins, the father of Bilbo (Martin Freeman). Jed Brophy and William Kircher will play the dwarves Nori and Bifur, respectively.
The Hobbit will appear in two separate movies, with the targeted release dates of December 2012 and 2013. Andy Serkis is expected to return as Gollum, and Sir Ian McKellen is reportedly returning as Gandalf, though neither actor has been officially confirmed by the studio. Production on The Hobbit will begin in February 2011 and is expected to last for an entire year.
