Three New Clips from the (Expensive) Romantic Comedy How Do You Know

December 17 is going to be a loaded weekend at the box office with three movies competing for an audience: the 3-D, sci-fi sequel Tron: Legacy, the 3-D live-action/animation hybrid Yogi Bear, and How Do You Know, the 2-D romantic comedy from writer/director James L. Brooks (As Good as It Gets, Broadcast News). While How Do You Know will have an advantage of not having to fight for 3-D screens, THR reports that it does have an inflated budget of $120 million dollars to earn back ($20 million is already returning in tax breaks). A story about a romantically-challenged woman caught in a love triangle wouldn't appear to need that much of a budget, but the report claims that the salaries of all of its stars — Reese Witherspoon ($15 million), Owen Wilson ($10 million), Paul Rudd ($3 million), Jack Nicholson ($12 million), plus Brooks' $10 million paycheck — put the budget at $50 million before cameras even started rolling.
With Sony Pictures hoping that How Do You Know will perform like last year's It's Complicated (earning $219 million on a $85 million budget), the studio has released three new clips to entice viewers about the movie.
In the first clip, Rudd, playing a corporate executive in trouble, isn't ready to hear some bad news that his father, Nicholson, tries to deliver.
In the second clip, Rudd tries to convince Kathryn Hahn not to tell him any of the insider information she claims to have.
The last clip shows the first meeting of Rudd and Witherspoon, which takes place after a very "bad 24 hours" for Rudd.
