Universal has announced that its Japanese feudal period epic, 47 Ronin, will not only be released in 3-D, but shot in 3-D by first-time feature director Carl Eric Rinsch, rather than converted in post-production. Rinsch is an innovative commercial director and the protégé of acclaimed director Ridley Scott. He was originally attached to direct the currently-in-development Alien prequel before Scott took the reins and has been mentioned in connection with the Logan's Run remake.
47 Ronin was written by Chris Morgan (Wanted) and is based on the Genroku Ako incident in Japan, the true story of 47 ronin (masterless samurais) who spent two years plotting revenge against a court official who forced their daimyo (master) to commit seppuku (ritual suicide). Keanu Reeves is attached to headline the movie.
