Fox recently released a still image and preview clip from its new Ice Age short, Scrat’s Continental Crack-Up, which will debut attached to Jack Black's new movie, Gulliver's Travels, on Christmas Day. The short is designed to be a teaser for the fourth chapter in the Ice Age franchise, Ice Age: Continental Drift, which won't be coming to theaters until July 13, 2012. Why the long delay? Because Fox's CGI-animation studio, Blue Sky, has been hard at work on a new animated feature, Rio. Two domestic teaser trailers have already been released for the movie and now a new international trailer for the movie is online.
A "dream project" for Brazilian-born director Carlos Saldanha, who directed all three Ice Age movies, Rio tells the story of a rare macaw named Blu (voiced by Jesse Eisenberg ) living in comfortable captivity in Minnesota who decides to venture to exotic Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, after discovering that a female macaw (Anne Hathaway) like him exists. Saldanha said that the movie will have a "complete different" tone than the Ice Age movies.
This is more colorful, has a lot of music and fun elements to it.... It's not a musical, but music is a great part of the story, because you cannot think about Brazil without thinking about music. So we're going to make sure that music is part of it. It's not even going to be Brazilian music. It's going to have a little more fun with music as part of the story, as part of the character's arc.
Blue Sky has assembled an all-star roster of voice talents to round out the cast, including George Lopez, Jamie Foxx, Neal Patrick Harris, Jemaine Clement, Rodrigo Santoro and popular Brazilian bossa nova singer Bebel Gilberto.
