Update on David O. Russell's Uncharted: Is the Family Dynamic Just a Rumor?

Director David O. Russell already has a few projects to keep him busy now that The Fighter is in theaters. Besides the comedy Old St. Louis, Russell also will be directing an adaptation of the Playstation 3 video game Uncharted: Drake's Fortune with Mark Wahlberg as Nathan Drake. Russell revealed in December that Uncharted would have a "family dynamic" that included the extended Drake family, however a recent Joystiq interview with Uncharted 3 game director Justin Richmond puts doubt into Russell's reported claims.
"First of all, all that stuff was denied by David O. Russell," Richmond told the gaming site. "He actually called us up and was like, 'I don't know what these guys are talking about.'" Richmond also said that Wahlberg "isn't anywhere near to being confirmed" as Drake.
But is the "family dynamic" just a rumor? Russell's comments about his family plans for Uncharted came from an interview with the LA Times, with Russell claiming the adaptation appealed to him because of the idea "that there's a family that's a force to be reckoned with in the world of international art and antiquities." If Russell's statement was untrue, it would be a fairly large misquote.
A month earlier, Wahlberg confirmed his interest in the role, revealing that "hopefully we'll be making that movie this summer", possibly with "Robert De Niro being my father" and "Joe Pesci being my uncle." That sounds like a "family dynamic" to us.
So far, neither Wahlberg nor Russell have spoken out about the supposed "rumor debunking" caused by the Joystiq interview, so until the record is set straight, we're not sure who to believe.
