While he may not be familiar to American audiences yet, Taiwanese singer, actor, director and producer Jay Chou, who stars as Kato in director Michel Gondry's The Green Hornet adaptation, is already wildly popular in the Far East. Chou has sold millions of copies of his pop music albums, which are often described as a fusion of traditional Chinese musical styles with Western R&B and rock, even earning four World Music Awards for Best-Selling Artist in China, and is the literal poster-boy for tween crushes throughout Asia.
To help American audiences get better acquainted him, Columbia Pictures has released a (heavily edited) short interview with Chou in which he discusses working with writer, producer and title star Seth Rogen in The Green Hornet and how it feels to be stepping into the shoes of the man who made Kato famous, Bruce Lee.
And, in other Green Hornet news, Zynga's wildly popular social media game Mafia Wars, has rolled out new Green Hornet-themed playable items in its second theatrical promotion crossover.
Prepping for the film’s January 14 release, Mafia Wars players can collect eight Green Hornet loot items including a mask, motorcycle, gas gun, double barrel gun, gas mask, hood gun and Hornet crest. Those who collect those seven items will be rewarded with The Black Beauty, an indestructible car that features prominently in the film.
The Green Hornet was written by Rogen and his frequent collaborator, Evan Goldberg. Cameron Diaz, Tom Wilkinson, Edward Furlong, David Harbour, Edward James Olmos and Academy Award-winner Christoph Waltz also star.
