Spider-Man Reboot Adds C. Thomas Howell

The cast of director Marc Webb's upcoming Spider-Man reboot continues to grow. Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that Red Dawn actor C. Thomas Howell has joined the cast in the mysterious role of "Ray."
With the Spider-Man comic book lacking in many characters named "Ray," the report speculates that Howell could be playing "Ray Cooper, the supposedly deceased father of Spidey’s current comic book girlfriend Carlie," but since Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) has already been photographed canoodling with love interest Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), it's doubtful that character of Carlie will make an appearance.
So who could Thomas be playing? He could be a work associate of Dr. Curt Conners, which Rhys Ifans is supposedly playing; he could be the mugger that shoots Uncle Ben (Martin Sheen) and sets Peter Parker on a path led by the mantra that "with great power comes great responsibility;" he could play a fellow police officer to Captain George Stacy (Denis Leary); or he could be an entirely new character invented for the movie by screenwriters James Vanderbilt and Alvin Sargent.
The mystery will be revealed on July 3, 2012, when the yet-untitled Spider-Man reboot opens.
