First Look at Denis Leary as Capt. Stacy in Spider-Man Reboot

While not nearly as exciting as the recently-released first image of Andrew Garfield in the newly-redesigned Spider-Man costume, a new batch of "spy pics" from the set of Marc Webb's Spider-Man reboot have given us our first look at Denis Leary as Capt. George Stacy.
Written by James Vanderbilt and Alvin Sargent, Webb's movie takes the franchise back to when Peter Parker (Garfield) was first bitten by the radioactive spider that gave him his powers. During these formative years, Capt. Stacy was an integral part of Parker's life, both as a rare defender of Spider-Man when the Daily Bugle was bashing him and branding him a villain, and as the father of Parker's high school girlfriend, Gwen (Emma Stone).
In the Marvel comic books on which the movie is based, Capt. Stacy is one of the first people to figure out Spider-Man's true identity, a secret he takes with him to the grave. During a battle between Spider-Man and Doctor Octopus, Capt. Stacy rushes to save a young boy from some falling debris and ends up getting crushed himself. In his final words to Parker, Capt. Stacy tells him that his daughter loves him and asks him to "be good to her."
It's unclear how closely Webb plans to stick to the comic book continuity so there's no telling whether Capt. Stacy will be around for a while or whether he will bite the dust in the first movie, albeit at the hands of the Lizard (or whatever villain Rhys Ifans ends up playing) rather than Doctor Octopus, who is not expected to make an appearance in the movie.
Joining Garfield, Stone and Leary in the Spider-Man reboot are Campbell Scott, Annie Parisse, Julianne Nicholson, Irrfan Khan, C. Thomas Howell, Chris Zylka and Martin Sheen. Two-time Academy Award-winning actress Sally Field is also rumored to be on the cast list, but there has been no official confirmation yet.
