David O. Russell in Negotiations to Rewrite and Direct Comic-Based 2 Guns Adaptation

Thanks to the critical and financial success of The Fighter, director David O. Russell now has his pick of follow-up projects and it appears that his next two features could be a one-two punch of video game and comic book adaptations. Although there was talk that he would next direct Old St. Louis, an original comedy that he wrote that would star Vince Vaughn as a traveling salesman.
After dropping out as director of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, the heat generated from The Fighter makes it far more likely that he will concentrate his efforts on Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, a live-action adaptation of the Playstation 3 game that will star Mark Wahlberg. Now, THR is reporting that Russell is "in negotiations" to rewrite and direct 2 Guns, Universal’s adaptation of the Boom! Studios comic book that has Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson attached to star in it.
Here's the official synopsis of 2 Guns from Boom! Studios:
A pulp story about cops and thieves and the men that are something in between. Trench has targeted a local bank to rob, and asked Steadman in on the job. Trench figures it's a great way to score—considering it's a cover for mob money. They'll be thieves ripping off thieves.
But what Steadman doesn't know is that Trench is a DEA agent. And what Trench doesn't know is that Steadman's a Naval Intelligence officer. They're both cops! And neither one knows that they're not robbing the mob, they've been set up to steal $50 million from the CIA! A light-hearted crime romp in the vein of Ocean's Thirteen and The Italian Job from comics legend, Steven Grant
Universal first picked up 2 Guns in 2008 as a starring vehicle for Vaughn and tapped TV writer Blake Masters (Brotherhood) to pen the script. If Russell comes on board to rewrite and direct, THR says that 2 Guns will follow Drake's Fortune. However, Collider speculates that 2 Guns could be Russell's next project.
