Joe Manganiello a Frontrunner to Headline the Superman Reboot?

Last week, Geoff Boucher of the L.A. Times Tweeted that the "rumor du jour in Hollywood" was that Joe Manganiello of HBO's hit series True Blood was "a front-runner" to play Clark Kent, aka Superman, in director Zack Snyder's Superman: The Man of Steel. We didn't pay much attention to the Tweet because Manganiello's name has been linked to the Superman reboot in the past—along with a half-dozen other (mostly unlikely) candidates—but then the L.A. Times' Ministry of Gossip blog reported that "Manganiello kept popping up in serious talks about a new face for the franchise" and our ears perked up.
When asked about the rumor, Manganiello told Extra that it's "not really up to" him, but that he "would be honored" to be chosen for the part.
I love Zack Snyer. I love [producer] Christopher Nolan. I'm a huge fan of both of them. I'd be honored if they would choose to do that.
Nolan conceived the idea for Superman: The Man of Steel and David S. Goyer, co-writer of both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, is writing the script. No start date has been announced as of yet.
