ComingSoon reports that while appearing at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival over the weekend, director Christopher Nolan spoke briefly about the upcoming sequel, The Dark Knight Rises. Nolan has admitted the sequel will be the "last chapter of our Batman saga", and he reiterated that message to the crowd. "[Returning] was about finishing the story," said Nolan.
Nolan joked that he came up with the title after he banged his head "against the wall," and confirmed a May production start.
We've worked on it a long time — David Goyer and myself. We're about 12 weeks away from shooting. We start in May.
Chrisitian Bale will return as the Caped Crusader for the third time in The Dark Knight Rises, and will be joined by newcomers Tom Hardy as Bane and Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, a.k.a Catwoman. When asked if Hathaway would play both iterations of the character, Nolan "smiled coyly and wouldn't say a word."
