Javier Bardem Interested in James Bond 23 Role, but Hasn't Accepted Yet

Last week, reports revealed that Javier Bardem was offered a role in the upcoming 23rd James Bond movie, a role that many assume to be Bond's main adversary. While talking to The LA Times, Bardem confirmed that he had met with director Sam Mendes, but he has yet to accept the role.
They’re changing the whole thing, the whole dynamic. I’d be playing Bond’s nemesis, yes, but it’s not that obvious. Everything is more nuanced.
Bardem wants to read the screenplay first, and admits to being a "huge fan" of the Bond franchise.
When I was little, I went watching Mr. [Sean] Connery doing James Bond with my father. Who in the world would think I’d be in one of those movies?
Apparently, Sam Mendes thought Bardem would be in "one of those movies." Should he accept, Bardem will join a cast that already includes the returning Dame Judi Dench and Daniel Craig. Screenwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade (Quantum of Solace, Casino Royale), as well as John Logan (The Aviator) are responsible for the screenplay, which hopefully will convince Bardem to accept the role.
